Qualifications

• Diploma of Child and Youth Care with 3+ years experience with Anishinabek children and families.
• 3 years related experience in a school-based service or special education.
• 3 years experience providing clinical interventions in a school-based setting.
• Satisfactory Criminal Records Search.
• Valid Standard First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain one.
• Class G Driver’s License with access to a personal vehicle.
• Medical and immunizations as required by policy.
• Participation in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training.

Position Overview

The Good Path Program is a partnership with the Lakehead District School Board (LDSB). The program provides culturally relevant mental health services and supports for Anishinabek students who are experiencing difficulty functioning in their home school environment due to cross-cultural, social, emotional and/or trauma related needs. By addressing group and individual goals, the program aims to increase student strengths, decrease areas of needs and support with generalization of skills to their home school. The program also offers supports to students’ families concurrently to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors for both the school and home environment.

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Classroom Clinical Assistant is responsible to provide culturally relevant children’s mental health services and supports for assigned students enrolled in The Good Path Program by working collaboratively with the Clinical Lead and the LDSB. This may include but is not limited to structured interventions, life skills programming, recreational programming and social skills programming.

This position will provide services in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy, approach, goals and learning environment established by Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, which will ensure the cultural, social, emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing of children/youth and their families.

Qualifications & Requirements

• A Diploma of Child and Youth Care coupled with four (3) years of relevant experience working with Anishinabek children and families in either a mental health or education setting is preferred. Candidates without the specific education requirements but who possess an appropriate level of experience and other academic qualifications will be considered.
• three years related experience working with Anishinabek children/youth/families;
• three years experience working in a school-based service or providing special education programming;
• three years experience providing clinical interventions in a school-based setting.
• satisfactory Criminal Records Search;
• must possess a valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain one;
• in relation to service requirements, as determined by the Day Treatment Services Manager or designate;
  • ability to work flexible hours;
  • work at an alternate agency site in same role for the duration of shift;
• must possess a Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle;
• must complete a medical and receive the required immunizations as recommended by the local Medical Officer of Health;
• must participate in cultural, social, recreational program activities;
• must participate in and qualify for certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training provided by the agency. Must be able to perform/implement physical restraint(s) as per Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training and in accordance with the agency Policies and Procedures.
