Job summary

Autism Services in Canada is looking for an experienced trucking professional to operate tractor-trailer combinations on long-haul routes. You will plan trips, load and unload cargo, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across all transit stages.

Qualifications

  • Hold Air Brakes Endorsement and Class 1/A Licence.
  • Valid Driver's Licence (Class 1 or A) required.
  • Experience driving tractor-trailer and handling cargo.

Responsibilities

  • Plan or adjust routes to minimize fuel consumption and emissions.
  • Maintain professionalism in customer service.
  • Load and unload goods as needed.
  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks.
  • Inspect vehicle condition including tires, lights and brakes.
  • Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections.
  • Record cargo information, hours of service and fuel usage.

Tasks
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions

  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
  • Perform brake adjustments
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
