Job summary

Knelsen Sand & Gravel Ltd in Alberta is hiring Class 1 winch truck drivers for our La Crete location. You will haul construction equipment to project sites across Alberta, ensuring loads are transported safely, efficiently, and in compliance with transportation regulations.

Qualifications

• Valid Alberta Class 1 Driver's License is required.
• Current driver's abstract with <6 demerits and no major convictions.
• Experience hauling construction equipment preferred.
• Experience operating lowboy, flat deck and/or winch trailers.
• Knowledge of load securement practices.
• Strong commitment to safe work practices.
• Ability to work independently and manage time well.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Operate Class 1 tractor-trailer combinations with lowboy, flat deck, and winch trailers.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload construction equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Complete electronic logs and hazard assessments as required.
• Comply with provincial regulations, oversized/overweight permits, and company safety policies.
• Maintain accurate trip records and delivery documentation.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and project personnel.
• Keep equipment clean and report maintenance needs promptly.
• Work safely in construction, yard, and job-site environments.

Job description

Knelsen is a leading road construction company providing premier services throughout Alberta. We are currently seeking Class 1 Winch Truck Drivers to join our La Crete location team.

What You'll Do

This position involves hauling a variety of construction equipment to project sites throughout Alberta while ensuring every load is transported safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all transportation regulations.

• Operating Class 1 tractor-trailer combinations with lowboy, flat deck, and winch trailers
• Loading, securing, transporting, and unloading construction equipment safely and efficiently
• Performing daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Completing electronic Hours of Service (Samsara) and daily hazard assessments (SiteDocs)
• Ensuring compliance with provincial transportation regulations, oversized load requirements, and company safety policies
• Maintaining accurate trip records and delivery documentation
• Communicating effectively with dispatch, customers, and project personnel
• Keeping assigned equipment clean and reporting maintenance concerns promptly
• Working safely in construction, yard, and job site environments

What You'll Bring

• Valid Alberta Class 1 Driver's License
• Current driver's abstract with fewer than six demerits and no major traffic convictions, in accordance with company policy.
• Previous experience hauling construction equipment
• Experience operating lowboy, flat deck, and/or winch trailers
• Knowledge of load securement practices
• Strong commitment to safe work practices
• Ability to work independently while managing time effectively
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime when required
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience transporting oversized and overweight loads
• Knowledge of permits and transportation regulations
• Familiarity with operating various types of construction equipment
• Experience using electronic logging devices (ELDs) such as Samsara
