Job summary

Thompson Construction Group is seeking a Heavy Haul Lowboy/Winch Truck Operator to move construction equipment in the Ft McMurray area. You will operate tractor and lowboy trailers, ensuring loads are secured and transported safely.

Responsibilities include daily pre-inspections, maintaining the truck, and adhering to safety policies. A 14-on/7-off rotation is required, with health and safety standards to be followed at all times.

Qualifications

• Must have 2+ years moving heavy equipment.

Thompson Construction Group is currently looking for a Heavy Haul Lowboy/Winch Truck Operator responsible for operating a truck & trailer for the transportation of construction equipment and materials in our Fort McMurray operations area

Responsibilities:

• Operating tractor and lowboy equipment trailers, moving equipment and materials between various projects in Ft McMurray and surrounding area.
• Able to work a 14 day on 7 day off shift rotation
• Deliver equipment and other material as determined by the Supervisor.
• Safely load and unload equipment and secure loads for transportation as required.
• Perform daily preventative maintenance inspections and safety checks to proactively identify any potential mechanical issues and advise the Supervisor.
• Keep truck in a clean and professional condition at all times.
• Complete accurate daily pre-inspections and post-inspections regulatory logs, Field Level Hazard Assessment sheets for all worksites, transportation timesheets and submit to the Supervisor.
• Behave in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, their co-workers and others on the work sites.
• Attend and participate in toolbox and safety meetings as scheduled.
• Report unsafe work, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries and near misses to supervisor and participate in the investigative process.
• Comply with established company and client policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
• Assist other employees when required.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience moving Heavy Equipment.
• Must have Valid Class 1 driver’s license with air endorsement (candidate to provide a current drivers’ abstract).
• Proficient in operating standard transmission (18 speed).
• Ability to identify and describe mechanical issues on the truck/trailer.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment.
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, proven reliability, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team coordination.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a larger operational team.
• Willingness to work in the Ft McMurray area and live in remote camps, working a rotational schedule.
• Energy Safety Canada CSO certification.
• Must be in good health and physical condition to safely perform all assigned duties.
• Must be able to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test.
