Job summary

Definity, the parent company behind Economical Insurance and other brands, is seeking a Claims Assistant co-op/intern for Winter 2027 in Waterloo, Ontario. You will handle invoice processing, data labeling, and payment notes, while delivering strong customer service within a supportive team.

Ideal candidates have at least two years of office experience, proficiency in MS Word and Excel, and good communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of office experience.
  • Some exposure to support functions in a claims area is an asset.
  • Strong keyboarding skills and adept at navigating through numerous screens quickly.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Professional, friendly, and courteous in all interactions with customers or co-workers.
  • Able to perform well in a busy operation and remain calm under pressure.
  • Team player adaptable to a changing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Processing invoices payments accurately and on time.
  • Ensure labelling of invoice is accurate (document type, subtype, title, along with other data).
  • Completing file transfers.
  • Uploading damage photos to claims; perform quality checks to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Ensure collaterals (EHB) are deducted when appropriate.
  • Make a note of payments on claims when necessary.
  • Provide superior customer service by building and maintaining relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Adhere to all internal Claims Best Practices.
  • Notify claims representative if reserves are depleted; maintain workload within guidelines and meet daily KPI targets for invoices processed.
  • Contact medical facilities to obtain claim details.
  • Participate in bi-weekly huddles.
  • Monitor common mailboxes and respond to emails.
  • Other general duties as assigned.

The hourly compensation for the role starts at $22.50 per hour and will increase based on factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, and the recommended rates as set by the respective educational institution.
