Job Description

CIMA+ is seeking an experienced Civil Technician / Surveyor to join our survey team supporting projects in Toronto, Burlington, Kitchener/Waterloo, and London. This is a seasonal role with potential to become full-time based on performance and project needs.

The primary responsibilities involve conducting pre-engineering surveys and construction layouts to support engineering designs across Municipal Engineering, Transportation, and Energy projects. Additional tasks include topographic and bathymetric surveys of storm ponds and infrastructure sites.

We seek an independent, technically skilled surveyor experienced with robotic total stations and GNSS/GPS networks for attribute-based topographic surveys. Strong understanding of robotic survey equipment and data collection methods is essential.

Detailed Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Conduct field surveys for municipal engineering and transportation projects, including data collection and construction layout.
  • Review survey data for accuracy, perform calculations, and prepare data for drafting or reporting.
  • Establish control points and reference ties for field re-establishment.
  • Potentially complete topographic and bathymetric surveys of stormwater ponds.
  • Gather detailed information on buried infrastructure, ensuring accurate location and condition assessments.
  • Use attribute-based survey codes compatible with engineering standards.
  • Record measurements and calculations neatly and accurately in field books.
  • Maintain safety practices and equipment condition.
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of survey equipment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience preferred.
  • Graduate of Civil/Geomatics Technology Program or equivalent training/experience.
  • Proficiency with GPS and robotic total stations.
  • Experience with CADD and Civil 3D is an asset.
  • Knowledge of construction/legal surveys.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of HSE regulations.

Preferred Characteristics

  • This is a field-based role requiring travel and outdoor work in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must have own vehicle for transporting equipment; travel expenses are reimbursed.
  • Knowledge of Ontario coordinate systems and control monuments.
  • Valid MTO Class ‘G’ driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software.
