Job summary

WalterFedy is seeking a Civil Project Engineer in Hamilton, Ontario to plan and execute complex engineering assignments with autonomy. The role emphasizes advancing design standards, reducing costs, and delivering high-quality work across sewer, water, earthworks, and road projects.

You will guide projects from planning through execution, collaborate with clients and agencies, and ensure adherence to budget and schedule while maintaining strong technical leadership and communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field) is required.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent certification required.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering role, preferably in a consulting environment.
• Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design standards, and best practices.
• Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems using innovative approaches.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, colleagues, and external agencies.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools.
• Project management experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage mid-sized to large projects.

• Investigate and solve unusual design and field engineering problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in innovative ways.
• Initiate and develop guidelines and investigations for other team members.
• Coordinate difficult and responsible tasks, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external agencies.
• Discuss design problems, explain design features and specifications, and outline project control criteria.
• Establish and maintain client contacts to seek or provide technical information related to projects.
• Communicate effectively with clients to discuss project progress, challenges, and solutions.
• Manage mid-sized to large projects, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and performance objectives.
• Prepare progress reports, recommend design changes, estimate costs, and recommend payments for completed work.
