Job summary

RAM Consulting is seeking a Civil Inspector II to support civil construction and utility infrastructure projects in British Columbia. About the Role

RAM Consulting is seeking a Civil Inspector II to support civil construction and utility infrastructure projects in British Columbia. This role will provide field inspection, quality assurance, reporting, and contract administration support while working closely with project engineers, contractors, operations personnel, and other project stakeholders.

The successful candidate must have previous civil construction inspection experience involving utilities or utility infrastructure, ideally within electrical, power, water, sewer, pipeline, or other linear infrastructure projects.

The Civil Inspector will be responsible for monitoring construction activities to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with project drawings, specifications, standards, and contract requirements.

What You’ll Be Working On

• Perform field inspections of civil construction and utility infrastructure works to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, contracts, and applicable standards.
• Monitor civil construction activities including excavation, trenching, backfill, concrete, foundations, drainage, utility crossings, restoration, and other associated works.
• Complete detailed Daily Inspection Reports and maintain accurate photographic and field records.
• Identify deficiencies or non-conforming work and communicate findings to the Project Engineer/Manager.
• Prepare and track non-conformance reports where required.
• Monitor workmanship, materials, construction methods, and overall quality of completed work.
• Coordinate and monitor third-party testing and inspection related to soils, engineered fills, asphalt, concrete, reinforcing steel, welding, coatings, pipe, and other materials.
• Monitor work within rights-of-way and around existing utility/client assets, including compliance with permits, codes, and project requirements.
• Attend pre-construction and project meetings and prepare meeting documentation where required.
• Verify contractor labour, equipment, and materials and assist with tracking project cost and schedule information as required.
• Take field measurements, complete red-line drawings, and assist with as-built documentation.
• Maintain effective working relationships with contractors, client representatives, consultants, testing agencies, and other project stakeholders.
• Follow RAM, Prime Contractor, and WorkSafeBC safety requirements and report unsafe conditions or activities.

What We’re Looking For

• Must have previous civil construction inspection experience involving utilities or utility infrastructure, ideally within electrical, power, water, sewer, pipeline, or other linear infrastructure projects.
• Previous experience as a Civil Inspector, Construction Inspector, Engineering Inspector, Utilities Inspector, or similar field-based position.
• Strong understanding of civil construction practices, materials, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Experience inspecting civil works such as excavation, trenching, backfill, compaction, concrete, foundations, drainage, utility crossings, and restoration.
• Familiarity with construction QA/QC practices and materials testing, including soils, engineered fills, asphalt, and concrete.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documentation.
• Strong field documentation and reporting skills, including daily reports, photographs, deficiencies, and as-built/red-line information.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, clients, and field personnel.
• Knowledge of applicable construction safety requirements and WorkSafeBC regulations.
• Civil Engineering Technology diploma, engineering-related education, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant field experience is preferred.
• Valid BC driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

Compensation & Benefits

The estimated hourly rate for this position is$32 - $40as of the posting date. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and training.
