Job summary

Thurber Engineering Ltd. in Oakville, St. Catharines or Pickering, Ontario seeks a Civil Engineering Technologist to join our team.

You will perform field inspections, soils testing and concrete testing under senior staff guidance to deliver reliable results. The role requires a college Civil Engineering Technology program, 1–2 years’ experience in construction materials testing, OACETT registration or eligibility, and a valid G license.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a College program in Civil Engineering Technology.
  • 1 to 2 year work experience in the field of construction materials testing.
  • Registration with OACETT or immediate eligibility.
  • Concrete Testing Certificate from CCIL is an asset.
  • This position would appeal to those who thrive in a fast pace and able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing).
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English is required.
  • Flexible schedule, with the ability to work overtime and/or weekends as required.
  • Valid Class G Drivers license is required; and,
  • Driving record will be requested.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction inspection and quality control/assurance testing for various infrastructure and transportation projects;
  • Conduct field compaction testing of soils;
  • Carry out laboratory testing on soils and concrete;
  • Carry out field concrete testing as per CSA requirements;
  • Conduct pile construction monitoring for driven steel and cast-in-place concrete piles;
  • Liaise with project engineers and client’s site representatives; and,
  • Travel to construction sites.

Overview

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineering Technologist to join our teams in Oakville, St. Catharines or Pickering, Ontario.

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.

This posting is to fill an existing vacancy.

As our Technologist, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

Responsibilities
