Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years, preferably 8–10 years of progressive environmental engineering/geoscience experience.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Ontario.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Environmental Regulations (e.g., 153/04, 406/19).
  • Detail oriented with strong organization and time management.
  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Excess Soil Planning Documents (APUs, SAPs, SCRs, ESDARs).
  • Conduct Phase One and Phase Two ESAs.
  • Project planning and coordination for environmental site investigations.
  • Construction stage support related to excess soil management.
  • Coordination with clients and other project team disciplines.
  • Proposal preparation and development of new business opportunities.
  • Management of project schedules and budgets.
  • Supervise technicians and junior engineers; provide technical direction.
  • Mentoring and development of junior staff; progressive client interaction.

Intermediate Environmental Engineer or Geoscientist (2026080598)

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Environmental Engineer or Geoscientist to join our team in Oakville, Ontario.

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.

This posting is to fill an existing vacancy.

As our Intermediate Environmental Engineer or Geoscientist, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team. You will work with our Ontario environmental team and our local geotechnical team to support our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Excess Soil Planning Documents including; Assessment of Past Uses (APUs), Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs), Soil Characterization Reports (SCRs) and Excess Soil Destination Assessment Reports (ESDARs);
  • Conducting Phase One and Phase Two ESAs;
  • Project planning and coordination for environmental site investigations;
  • Construction stage support related to excess soil management;
  • Coordination with clients and other project team disciplines;
  • Preparation of proposals and working with colleagues from other offices or disciplines in the development of new business opportunities;
  • Management of project schedules and budgets;
  • Supervise the work of technicians and junior engineers, and provide technical direction;
  • Mentoring and development of junior staff; and,
  • Progressive interaction with clients.

This is an intermediate level position based primarily in the office with expectations to conduct field visits and assist with field programs as required. There will be opportunity for continued career growth within the company.

Qualifications and Assets

  • University degree in Environmental Engineering, Geoscience or a related field;
  • A minimum of 5 years, and preferably 8 to 10 years, of progressive experience in environmental engineering, preferably as a consulting engineer or geoscientist;
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Ontario;
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Environmental Regulations, including 153/04, 406/19, etc.;
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team in various environments; and,
  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.

Base Salary Range (required for B.C. and Ontario)

  • $85,000 - $105,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week.
  • The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.
  • The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.
  • Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
