Job summary

M2 Engineering is seeking a Civil Design Engineer (P.Eng.) to design water/wastewater infrastructure including pipelines, forcemains, and site utilities. You will prepare studies, pre-designs, and detailed designs, and support construction activities with a multidisciplinary team in Alberta.

The role requires experience with wastewater collection systems, lift stations, lagoons, and related infrastructure. Travel to project sites across Alberta, with potential extended workdays, is anticipated.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Civil‑Environmental Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum four years of consulting engineering experience in civil infrastructure and/or water and wastewater.
  • Must be in good standing with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor junior staff in day-to-day activities and share best practices.
  • Coordinate with the professional engineering team to complete design tasks.
  • Oversee technical staff on projects and assignments.
  • Coordinate with drafting team to develop detailed design drawings.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and sub-consultants.
  • Develop engineering drawings, details, front-end contract specifications, and technical specifications.
  • Review project budgets, monitor hours, and ensure delivery within budget.
  • Review construction contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist with construction submittals, shop drawings, RFI/enquiries, and contract changes.
  • Conduct engineering site visits and field reviews to ensure work follows drawings and specs.

Job description

Position Overview

As a Civil Design Engineer (P.Eng.) at M2 Engineering you will be responsible for various aspects of designing civil infrastructure associated with water and wastewater systems including underground pipelines, forcemains, site utilities, site grading and ponds. You will also handle design aspects related to commercial buildings such as site utility plans and site grading plans. The role involves preparing studies, pre‑designs, and detailed designs, as well as supporting construction activities. You will work side‑by‑side with our engineering team to troubleshoot problems and develop efficient solutions for our clients.

This position requires experience in designing water and wastewater underground infrastructure and working with a multi‑discipline project team. Responsibilities include a thorough understanding of wastewater collection systems, lift stations, forcemains, lagoons, raw water storage ponds, pipelines, pump stations, and site servicing. Travel to project sites throughout Alberta may be required, including overnight stays, and work hours can extend to 8–12 hours per day when necessary.

  • Design wastewater infrastructure such as collection systems, lift stations, forcemains, lagoons, and treatment facilities.
  • Design pipelines with knowledge of land acquisitions, crossing agreements, environmental restrictions, wetland policies, and Alberta Environment and Parks requirements.
  • Design civil site utilities and grading for facilities and commercial building projects.
  • Coordinate with drafting team to develop detailed design drawings.
Qualifications
  • Must hold a valid Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Civil‑Environmental Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum four years’ consulting engineering experience in civil infrastructure and/or water and wastewater areas of practice. Candidates with less experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
  • Must be in good standing with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
