Job summary

Citi is seeking a Java Backend Developer to join a team modernizing CitiDirect's payments architecture. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable Java backend services, implementing microservices with Spring and Kafka, and working with MongoDB and Oracle to optimize data schemas and queries.

Strong testing practices with JUnit/Mockito are expected. Preferred candidates will have 3+ years in Java, RESTful API design, and a solid understanding of microservices and payments messaging

We are seeking a Java Backend Developer to join a group modernizing CitiDirect's Payment architecture, who has a technical curiosity and is willing to learn new skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Core Java with a desire to learn tips and tricks for integrating AI into the development process.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and high-performance Java-based backend services
• Implement microservices using Spring Framework 6, Spring Boot 3 and Spring Cloud
• Implement event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka
• Work with MongoDB and Oracle - design schemas and optimize queries
• Implement and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes and best practices

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in Java development, with a strong command of Core Java concepts
• Experience with Spring Framework, including Spring Boot and Spring Cloud
• Experienced implementing microservices architecture
• Proficiency in working with Apache Kafka, including designing and implementing event-driven systems
• Proficiency with MongoDB, including schema design, complex queries, and performance optimization for large-scale applications
• Understanding of NoSQL database concepts and best practices
• Experience with Oracle databases and SQL, and performance optimization
• Expertise in RESTful API design principles
• Proficiency in writing unit and integration tests using frameworks like JUnit and Mockito

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Understanding of Agile methodologies
• Solid understanding of payments industry, including various payment systems and processes
• Familiarity with ISO 20022 standards, and their application in payments messaging
