Job summary

Citi is seeking a Senior Java Developer to design, build, and evolve enterprise-grade shared services for high-volume financial systems. You will lead technical delivery across the full development lifecycle and set engineering standards within a globally connected tech team.

Qualifications

• 6+ years hands-on experience developing and maintaining enterprise shared services with Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB.
• Deep expertise in Java 8, Camel, JMS, WebSphere MQ, TIBCO EMS, OSGi, REST APIs, SSL.
• Ability to troubleshoot in high-traffic backend environments.
• Experience with GitHub, uDeploy, SonarQube in Agile.
• Working knowledge of SQL and performance measurement.
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery and manage priorities across teams.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Citi is looking for a Senior Java Developer to design, build, and evolve enterprise-grade shared services that underpin high-volume, mission-critical financial systems. In this role, you will lead technical delivery across the full development lifecycle, shaping architecture decisions and setting engineering standards within a globally connected technology team. This is an opportunity to take real ownership of complex backend platforms and directly influence how Citi's technology ecosystem performs at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop enterprise shared services using Java, Spring Boot, and MongoDB, ensuring solutions meet performance, reliability, and scalability requirements in high-transactional environments.

• Lead integration across messaging and middleware platforms - including WebSphere MQ, TIBCO EMS, Apache Camel, and JMS - to deliver seamless, resilient system connectivity.

• Define and enforce engineering standards for coding, testing, debugging, and deployment, driving consistency and quality across the development team.

• Collaborate with architecture and infrastructure teams to ensure application designs align with the broader technology blueprint and long-term platform strategy.

• Provide Tier 3 production support, diagnosing and resolving high-impact incidents through structured analysis and advanced troubleshooting techniques.

• Mentor and guide mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work effectively and building technical capability across the team.

• Partner with engineering and product stakeholders to identify system enhancement opportunities and translate business requirements into practical, high-quality technical solutions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 6+ years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining enterprise shared services using Java, Spring Boot, and MongoDB.

• Deep expertise in Java 8, Apache Camel, JMS, WebSphere MQ, TIBCO EMS, OSGi, REST APIs, SSL, and related open-source technologies.

• Demonstrated ability to perform critical-situation troubleshooting across complex, high-traffic backend environments.

• Practical knowledge of DevOps tooling, including GitHub, uDeploy, and SonarQube, with experience integrating these into an Agile development lifecycle.

• Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to apply it effectively in application analysis, tuning, and performance measurement.

• Proven ability to lead technical delivery, manage competing priorities, and operate with professional maturity across all levels of an organization.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and OpenShift.

• Familiarity with critical-incident diagnostic tools including Samurai, Thread Dump Analyser (TDA), or Memory Analyser Tool (MAT).

• Hands-on experience with Linux command-line administration, particularly in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.

• Experience with the Lightspeed deployment platform within a regulated or enterprise financial services context.

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
