Job summary

The YMCA Simcoe/Muskoka in Midland is seeking a Child and Youth Program Instructor to deliver structured programs for children and youth in a safe, supportive environment. This daytime role emphasizes our mission and values while fostering positive engagement with families and participants.

You will coach and supervise participants, maintain records, and collaborate with a team to keep the facility clean and welcoming. First Aid/CPR C is required; training will be provided where needed.

Qualifications

• Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with children and families.
• Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong time management and organizational abilities.
• First Aid/CPR Certification (C) required.
• Healthy Child Development training or related experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structured programs for children and youth, adapting activities for age and development.
• Coach and supervise children during scheduled programs.
• Communicate with participants, caregivers, members, staff and volunteers.
• Maintain attendance sheets, program area maintenance items and daily checklists.
• Collaborate with the team to ensure a clean and well-maintained facility.

In this role, you will:

• Deliver structured programs for children and youth, with the ability to modify programs to meet the age-appropriate and developmental needs of all participants
• Coach and appropriately supervise children during scheduled programs
• Communicate with all participants and their caregivers, members, staff and volunteers
• Maintain records as needed, including attendance sheets, program area maintenance items and daily checklists
• Work as part of a team to ensure a clean and well maintained facility at all times

You bring:

• A positive enthusiastic attitude
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills
• Standard First Aid/CPR Certification ‘C’
• Healthy Child Development training or experience working with children in a recreational setting is an asset
• Clear Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Must be able to work flexible hours based program needs
• Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:
  • AODA Training
  • Health & Safety Awareness Training
  • Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
  • PCI Compliance
  • WHMIS
  • Child Safeguarding Training
