Birchway Niagara seeks a Child and Youth Intervention Advocate for 28 hours per week. Duties: The Child/Youth Intervention Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention, parenting support and education intervention to children and mothers/guardians who fall within the context of the Mission Statement of Birchway Niagara. The Child/Youth Intervention Advocate shall be responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating the Child/Youth Program, as well as carrying out all the duties of the Women’s Intervention Advocate. This will be achieved through parenting and age-appropriate programming
Key Responsibilities Include: Provide crisis intervention and community referrals to child/youth clients and/or their mothers; carry out intakes and case planning with children and teen residents; discussions with moms regarding their children’s case plan and identify any parenting needs; provide in-house orientations with new child(ren) and teen residents; provide parenting educational intervention with resident women to assist them to effectively deal with the effects of witnessing violence may have on their children; assist women in maintaining and fostering healthy parent/child relationships; ensure that the Child/Youth Unit schedule is coordinated with the ARU schedule to assist in the scheduling of intervention sessions for each program; ensure that all Family and Children Services reporting requirements are adhered to; develop, implement and evaluate Child/Youth educational intervention program for children/youth and mothers, in-house and outreach programs; and maintain adequate documentation and statistics with respect to the Child/Youth program.
Basic Requirements: The successful candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills. The ability to handle a crisis and carry out independent decision-making is essential. The candidate must possess the ability to work as part of a team, have well-developed interpersonal skills and have experiences working with diverse groups. They will also have strong collaboration skills and extensive knowledge of the effects of abuse or exposure to abuse on children and youth.
Qualifications: Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Studies/Social Work or related filed, or equivalent work experience is required. Proficiency in a second language is strongly encouraged.
Hours: 28 Hours, 4 days per week (will include evenings and weekends) – Schedule will be co-ordinated with Director of Client Service and Operations prior to start date.
