The York Region District School Board seeks an Educational Assistant to support students with exceptional needs. This position involves collaborating closely with educators and requires skills in behavior management, communication support, and confidentiality. Candidates should possess relevant education and experience, with a strong emphasis on interpersonal skills.
Under the direction and supervision of the Principal, and in consultation with the Learning Resource Teacher (LRT) and classroom teacher, the Educational Assistant is responsible for supporting students with exceptional needs within the school. The position involves handling confidential information and requires flexibility and adaptability. Responsibilities include supporting the instruction of individual and group students in academic or integrated settings, overseeing special education students, and implementing programs related to behaviour, communication, intellectual, or physical needs, as required.
Education & Experience: Incumbents must possess a secondary school diploma and either a two- or three-year Community College Diploma in fields such as Child & Youth Worker, Registered Early Childhood Educator, Behavioral Science Technician, Educational Assistant, Developmental Services Worker, Social Service Worker, Registered Nurse, Registered Nursing Assistant, or Registered Practical Nurse. Bachelor degrees in Child Studies, Sociology, or Psychology are also recognized. BMS training/certification is an asset. Nursing diplomas must include proof of current certification. Relevant work experience is an asset.
