Infinity Women Secretariat (IWS) is seeking a full-time Child Care Assistant/Kitchen Staff for the Transitional Housing Child Care Centre in St. Andrews, MB. The successful candidate will prepare meals, ensure safety, and support program development, with the site temporarily operating at 150 Henry Avenue, Winnipeg, MB until Fall 2026.

Preference is given to qualified Red River Métis women. A 40-hour course, 1+ year experience, and valid food safety/First Aid certificates are required; travel

Qualifications

  • 40-hour course completed.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as Child Care Assistant or similar role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid Food Handlers Certificate and First Aid/CPR.
  • Circle of Security certification is an asset.
  • Clear background checks for Vulnerable Sector, Criminal Record, and Child Abuse Registry.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for daily meals and snacks.
  • Monitor cooking times and plate dishes accordingly.
  • Restock items and manage food levels.
  • Deliver meals per schedule and rotate stock as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for children.

Job description

Infinity Women Secretariat (IWS) is a non-profit organization that connects Red River Métis women, girls, 2SLGBTQ+ members throughout the Province of Manitoba and beyond, with a mandate to promote, empower, and enhance their well-being. Incorporated on April 23, 2013, IWS has become well known in our Red River Métis communities and remains a proud affiliate of the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis

The IWS seeks to fill one full-time Child Care Assistant/Kitchen Staff position within our Transitional Housing Child Care Centrelocated in St. Andrews, MB. The Childcare Assistant/Kitchen staff will provide healthy and child-friendly meals and snacks that adequately match the appetites and needs of all children following the Centre's Approved Menu.The Child Care Centre is currently under development. The successful candidate will be required to work at 150 Henry Avenue in Winnipeg, MB, for a temporary term, with the site anticipated to become operational in Fall 2026.

  • Prepare required ingredients for the day;
  • Monitor the time needed for each dish to cook and remove cooked dishes;
  • Oversee food levels and restocking of items as required;
  • Deliver meals as per the designated schedule;
  • Responsible for receiving incoming food orders and rotating stock;
  • Serving food at mealtimes as required;
  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment;
  • Provide a safe environment and ensure indoor and outdoor areas are free of dangerous conditions and materials.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Recognized 40-hour course;
  • Minimum of one years' experience as a Child Care Assistant or relevant role with demonstrated ability to deliver programs and services;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Valid Food Handlers Certificate;
  • Dependable, reliable, and punctual;
  • Valid 1st Aid/CPR Certification;
  • Circle of Security Certificate an asset;
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check, Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, heritage, and language an asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
