Job description

Being the Chief of the Compliance, Risk Management, Legal Affairs and Corporate Insurance Management team at National Bank Insurance means acting as an expert within the sector to guide and advise stakeholders and management in decisions requiring expertise in the field of compliance and risk management. This job allows you to have a positive impact on our organization, thanks to your positive leadership, your experience in corporate law and your strong communication skills.

** The role can be based in Montreal OR Toronto depending on the selected candidate.

  1. Act as a leader to guide and prioritize the team's work
  2. Maximize your team's contribution by encouraging innovative behaviors and establishing performance objectives in line with the business plan for which you monitor and implement
  3. Implement a governance framework for both compliance and risk management adapted to the needs of the National Bank Insurance sector and required by regulatory authorities in the insurance field.
  4. Plan, guide and conduct risk assessment work to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  5. Follow up on action plans further to the recommendations made.
  6. Draft or coordinate the drafting of contracts for National Bank Insurance.
  7. Participate in National Bank Insurance’s development strategies, act as an expert advisor to Senior Management in acquisitions, outsourcing or corporate restructuring with significant financial implications for the insurance sector and the Bank.
  8. Act as a contact person for employees from different sectors in order to align practices across the organization.
  9. Lead various complex projects and mandates that have a major impact on National Bank Insurance’s activities.
  10. Liaise and communicate with insurance regulatory authorities such as the Autorité des marchés financiers and provincial regulatory bodies across Canada.
  11. Support Senior Management, including by serving as the Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Risk Officer on the NBLIC Board of Directors and preparing the required documentation for the Board and the various Board committees in collaboration with the Corporate Secretary’s Office.
  12. Participate in other committees, including strategic committees on special projects and the NBC Risk Management Committee.
  13. Lead National Bank Insurance’s Litigation Committee and field complaint management.
  14. Lead the Bank’s corporate insurance sector; see to insurance renewals for the Bank as a whole and its subsidiaries. Ensure the use of best practices, manage complaints, offer solutions to mitigate risks and ensure efficient risk sharing. Periodically review coverages. Act as an expert for NBC.

Your team:

Reporting to the Senior VP and President of National Bank Insurance and you have a team of 6 employees with diverse skills. The team's mandates are varied. It applies to all National Bank Insurance's business units, both for compliance with the legal framework and for the management of risks and the legal affairs associated with them. The team is also responsible for the management (underwriting, claims) of all insurance coverage underwritten by National Bank or one of its subsidiaries.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 10 years of relevant experience or master's degree in a related field and 8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in personnel management
  • Strong corporate law background
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance practices in insurance (people and damage) and banking, an important asset
  • Knowledge of more complex insurance transactions and products serving corporate or institutional needs
  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec and Lawyer title, an asset
  • Influencing and advisory skills with Senior Management
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize in a large complex company environment
  • Ability to structure and document information
  • Ability to conduct presentations to a board of directors and Senior Management
  • Strong communication and writing skills
Languages:

Reason to require this language: you will need to collaborate with a regulator/authority/government body outside Quebec.
