YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE

We are looking for a Chemistry Lab Technician at #106-8255 North Fraser Way, Burnaby, BC V3N 0B9, CAN. Your mission will be to:

Purpose (Objective):

The incumbent is responsible for performing chemical analysis on food, pharmaceutical, or other samples.

Main activities:
  1. Composting and grinding of samples for analysis as required.
  2. Perform chemical analyses such as protein, moisture, fat, ash, and other components.
  3. Prepare samples for analysis according to procedure. Retrieve samples from designated areas (e.g., log-in, sample storage).
  4. Perform chemical analyses of macronutrients, micronutrients, or other parameters as designated.
  5. Extract desired components from samples with appropriate processes for concentration determination.
  6. Prepare standards and reagents needed for analysis.
  7. Label all samples throughout the process for tracking purposes.
  8. Perform calculations, check, and interpret results where applicable.
  9. Track test statuses to ensure client turnaround time commitments are met and report non-compliance to supervisor.
  10. Assist other departmental personnel with analysis tasks to ensure timely testing.
  11. Update logbooks, transfer data, and maintain records, including quality records.
  12. Perform housekeeping duties, keeping work areas and equipment clean and sanitized.
  13. Participate in cleaning schedules and maintain retain samples as required.
  14. Train analysts and participate in training programs.
  15. Perform preventative maintenance on instrumentation.
  16. Clean and prepare glassware for analysis.
  17. Ensure material and supplies are maintained and prepared for subsequent analyses.
  18. Coordinate with other departments to maintain workflow.
  19. Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  20. Support quality and continuous improvement processes, including participation in quality monitoring and control tasks.
  21. Identify departures from quality systems or test procedures and document observations.
  22. Support laboratory management in quality system implementation and improvement.
  23. Adhere to all safety policies.
  24. Perform other related tasks as needed.
YOUR PROFILE
Knowledge:

Basic knowledge of chemistry for accurate testing and results.

Profile:

HS Diploma with one or more years of experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Required skills:
  • Basic knowledge of wet and instrumental chemistry procedures.
  • Analytical skills for completing analysis procedures and determining concentrations.
  • General knowledge of LIMS for processing client data.
  • Physical dexterity for manipulating samples.
Work Environment:

The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to fumes, chemicals, and materials. Safety equipment such as gloves, lab coat, and glasses may be required. Daily use of autoclave and lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. Extended standing and color variation detection are expected.

The pay range for this role is $21.48-$22.61 CAD hourly.
