Job description

As an elite event centre in the GTA, Bellvue Manor is known for its stunning venue and unforgettable dining experiences. We are currently looking for a creative and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team. In this position you will work closely with the Executive Chef. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in managing the operation of the kitchen, through food preparation, kitchen supervision, menu development, food cost management, quality control, as well as maintaining kitchen hygiene, and adhering to all health and safety regulations. This position requires a strong background in the food industry, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to food safety and hospitality. Key Job Responsibilities :

  • Preparing food in various cuisines utilizing a variety of cooking techniques
  • Ensuring food is prepared and presented to the highest quality and safety standards
  • Preparing and cooking specialty foods
  • Quality control of all ingredients and dishes
  • Assisting the Executive Chef with menu and recipe development
  • Managing inventory and assisting with weekly ordering
  • Maintaining records of food costs, consumption, sales, and inventory
  • Supervising and instructing kitchen staff in handling of food, preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food, while ensuring efficiency.
  • Training kitchen staff on various cooking techniques and equipment, as well as ensuring they maintain kitchen hygiene and adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Ensuring food preparation and kitchen exceed health and safety standards and codes, and food is properly stored and safely handled for consumption
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the kitchen
  • Ensuring that all kitchen equipment is maintained and operated safely.
  • Assisting with scheduling of kitchen staff
  • In the absence of the Executive Chef, act as a leader in the kitchen Qualifications :
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and problem solve
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and work as a team member
  • Proficient in food preparation techniques and culinary skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • A passion for the culinary arts and commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences.
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen health and safety requirements, safe food storage guidelines, and various kitchen equipment
  • Food handler certification a must
  • First aid and WHMIS training a plus
  • Reliable transportation Experience :
  • 5+ years of experience in a professional / commercial kitchen
  • Formal culinary training or culinary art diploma / degree an asset
  • Banquet experience a must Work conditions :
  • Fast-paced environment
  • Work under pressure
  • Standing for extended periods
  • 40+ hours per week
  • Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed
