Job Description

Provides evaluation of and care for respiratory therapy patients. Administers prescribed respiratory therapeutic services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
• Licensed by West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist - Registered (LRTR), or applicable state license, or temporary license if permitted by state regulations.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required within 30 days of hire based on hospital requirements. Refer to specific hospital requirements listed below.

Hospital-specific requirements:

• BARNS: ACLS
• BMC: POCT within 30 days; ACLS, PALS, NRP within 6 months
• CCMC: ACLS if in Cardiac Pulmonary Rehab
• GRMC: ACLS
• HARR: ACLS
• JMC: POCT within 30 days; ACLS, PALS, NRP within 6 months
• PCH: ACLS, PALS, NRP, STABLE
• PVH: ACLS
• RMH: NRP
• UHC: ACLS
• UNTWN: ACLS

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: Two (2) years of hospital-based respiratory therapy experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as ordered by a physician.
• Assemble, check, and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment; perform quality control.
• Initiate, monitor, and discontinue mechanical ventilation for all patient age groups.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members regarding patient care.
• Assist with patient and family education.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
• Perform diagnostic procedures as ordered.
• Maintain professional competency and departmental skills.

Physical Requirements

• Stand/walk for extended periods.
• Lift, push, or pull up to 40 pounds.

Working Environment

• Maintain awareness of environmental factors and infection control to ensure a safe patient care environment.
