Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking a Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician for Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. The role focuses on decontamination, reassembly and sterilization of surgical instruments within the OR environment, following aseptic technique and universal precautions.

You will ensure equipment is clean and functional, perform quality checks and report issues to the supervisor, contributing to safe patient care in a high-volume surgical unit.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) program.
  • HSPA or CSA certification.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within a highly complex interdisciplinary team.
  • Time management, adaptability in a rapidly moving environment and conflict resolution skills are essential.
  • Previous experience in Operating Room (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, reassemble and sterilize hospital supplies and surgical instrumentation.
  • Ensure instrumentation and equipment is in proper working order and perform quality assurance testing.
  • Apply aseptic technique and Universal Precautions to prevent Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI).
  • Report problems to the supervisor or designate.

Job description

The FMC OR is the Adult Quaternary Level 1 Trauma Centre serving Southern Alberta and surrounding areas. Our OR includes 32 operating rooms and surgeries are performed 365 days per year. Our multidisciplinary team includes Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Perioperative RNs, ORTs, RN First Assists and support staff. We proudly provide surgical interventions for over 22,000 patients yearly with the highest standard of care.FMC OR partners with the U of C to provide a teaching environment for medical and nursing students. We are proud to be the Calgary Zone Centre of Excellence for Trauma, Cardiac Open Heart, Neurological, Thoracic, Spine and Organ Transplant surgeries. We are a world leader in the development of the MRI Operative Suite and Interventional Hybrid Trauma and Cardiac Operating rooms. Other surgical specialties include Ortho/Arthroplasty, Gen Surgery, Pacemakers, Vascular Access, ENT, Plastics, and Gynecology. FMC cares for oncology patients spanning all services.As a Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician in the OR, you will be responsible for providing support with regards to equipment and supplies. You will work closely with many disciplines. Collaboration with Medical Device Reprocessing Department is a responsibility of this role.

Description:

As a Surgical Processor, you will be responsible for the decontamination, reassembly and sterilization of hospital supplies, equipment and surgical instrumentation. You will use the principles of aseptic technique and follow Universal Precautions in the prevention of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI). Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) program.Completion of an Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong communication and collaboration skills within a highly complex interdisciplinary team, time management skills, adaptability in a rapidly moving environment and conflict resolution skills are essential to this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in Operating Room.
