JOB SUMMARY :
The Certified Medical Assistant will provide direct patient care under the guidelines of the American Association of Medical Assistants.
A. ROUTINE :
- Know and follow Employee Handbook policies and procedures, be knowledgeable and adhere to the HIPAA Privacy Rules, and be aware of sanctions for privacy violations.
- Be knowledgeable and adhere to the proper process for releasing Patient Health Information (PHI).
- Be knowledgeable of the company's products, services, and required authorizations.
- Provide speedy and efficient service to patients, customers, and vendors, whether in person or via telephone.
- Communicate clearly in verbal and written form through proper channels.
- Be punctual, maintain good attendance, and use the time clock appropriately (refer to Employee Handbook).
- Maintain patient confidentiality as evidenced by a signed Confidentiality Agreement.
- Represent the company professionally, using positive language and speaking clearly.
- Follow the company's dress code and be flexible and adaptable.

- Follow applicable safety standards and company policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality, ensuring HIPAA compliance.

- Familiarize with communication books, medical forms, and safety manuals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Work Position :
- Sitting for tasks like writing and phone calls (20% or more).
- Standing for procedures (less than 40%).
- Walking to and from examination rooms (less than 40%).
Body Movements :
- Lifting up to 60 lbs or more, approximately 15% of the time.
- Bending, stooping, and squatting during patient care, about 30% of the time.
- Reaching above head to 75 degrees for supplies or charts, about 10% of the time.
- Pushing/pulling patients in wheelchairs or gurneys, about 10% of the time.
- Handling dexterity tasks like administering medications, injections, writing, and instrument handling, about 30% of the time.
- Climbing stairs, one flight, approximately 5% of the time.
SPECIFICS :
- Escort patients to exam rooms and obtain vital signs.
- Document pertinent patient information accurately.
- Assist with procedures ordered by providers.
- Maintain patient flow and room availability.
- Ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
- Reinforce patient education and participate in teaching.
- Stock and maintain exam rooms and workstations.
- Participate in unit duties like cleaning and ordering supplies.
- Maintain logs, safety manuals, and calibrate equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Handle and document medications appropriately.
- Initiate and participate in emergency codes within scope of practice.
- Float across departments as competent.
- Use VVIPA computers and maintain current certifications in drug testing and related procedures.
- Perform regular duties of a Certified Medical Assistant, including Rx refills, documentation, and referrals.
- Follow up with patients regarding lab results and hospital discharges.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Current CPR certification.
- At least one year of experience in a physician's office or clinic.
- Current venipuncture certification.
- Certifications in urine drug screening, breath alcohol, and hair analysis.
- Ability to work in a multi-task, high-stress environment.
