Job summary

Westbank First Nation’s Sensisyusten School seeks a Certified Education Assistant to provide essential support to students under the supervision of the Learning Support Teacher. You will assist in delivering individualized education programs and support students with diverse needs.

Requirements include a Certified Education Assistant certificate or BC Teaching certificate, plus experience with school-aged children and a valid First Aid/ CPR certification.

Qualifications

  • Certification required: Certified Education Assistant or BC Teaching certificate.
  • Experience with school-aged children (min. 2 years, desirable).
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of individual education program goals and strategies.
  • Assists classroom teachers in the education and/or training of students with special needs on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, or with the whole class.
  • Maintains records and progress reports of students’ IEP and IBP.
  • Helps present a safe learning classroom environment.
  • Supervises students during various school activities as required.
  • Modifies and prepares specialized teaching aids and materials under teacher direction.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Learning Support Teacher/Supervisor, and the guidance of the classroom and learning assistance teachers, the Certified Education Assistant provides assistance to students.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Certified Education Assistant certificate or BC Teaching certificate
  • Experience working with school-aged children (minimum two years, desirable)
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid First Aid Certification with CPR Level B or C endorsement
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search with results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License preferred
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of individual educational program goals and strategies
  • Assists classroom teachers in the education and/or training of students with special needs including learning, emotional, and/or physical challenges on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, or with the whole class
  • Assists teachers in maintaining records and progress reports of students’ IEP and IBP
  • Assists teachers to present a safe learning classroom environment
  • Assists in the supervision of students during classroom periods, playground sessions, lunch breaks, physical education/gym sessions, field trips, etc., as required
  • Modifies and prepares specialized teaching aids and materials for students under the direction of the teacher
  • Cooperates in team building and team work with the principal and other staff
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the School policies, standards, governing regulations and procedures, as directed by the Principal of Sensisyusten School
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and the School
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Principal of Sensisyusten School

The median hourly wage is $30.58.
