Job summary

Westbank First Nation is hiring an Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD) Support Worker within the Early Years program. You will provide direct support to children and youth (0–19) with developmental delays, collaborating with families, educators, and consultants to promote inclusion.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Early Years Manager, the Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD) Support Worker provides direct, hands-on support to children and youth aged 0–19 with developmental delays and/or disabilities in home, childcare, school, and community settings. Working collaboratively with families, caregivers, educators, and the Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD) and Indigenous Early Years Outreach (IEYO) Consultants, the ISCD Support Worker promotes inclusion and supports children to participate meaningfully in daily routines, learning opportunities, and community activities. This position is part of the Community Services team within the Indigenous Infant and Child Development program of the Early Years Department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Diploma in Early Childhood Education with a Special Needs Certificate, Human Services, Child and Youth Care, or a related field.
• Experience supporting children and youth with developmental delays and/or disabilities.
• Experience working with Indigenous children, families, and communities is considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

REQUIREMENTS

• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, results acceptable to WFN
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract with access to a reliable vehicle required.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification (Level C)
• Meets all immunization and tuberculosis screening requirements in accordance with provincial legislation and program requirements.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and clients.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

• Collaborates with educators, families, caregivers, and consultants to support children and youth in fully participating in daily routines, learning experiences, and community activities.
• Implements individualized strategies, activities, and therapeutic recommendations developed by the ISCD/IEYO Consultant and other professionals to support children's developmental goals.
• Provides one-to-one and small-group support in childcare, school, home, and community environments.
• Supports children in developing social, emotional, communication, motor, and self-help skills.
• Models inclusive practices for educators and caregivers.
• Assists with transitions between programs and educational settings.
• Documents observations and reports progress to the ISCD/IEYO Consultant.
• Participates in team meetings and ongoing professional development.
• Provide culturally appropriate daily experiences that support and promote the development of all children/youth in the setting
• Maintains regular communication with the ISCD/IEYO Consultants regarding child progress, concerns, and support strategies.
• Work collaboratively with child development professionals to role model and support the implementation of therapeutic strategies
• Maintains accurate documentation, case notes, and progress records in accordance with provincial requirements and WFN policies.
• Performs duties in accordance with Westbank First Nation policies, Child Care Licensing Regulations, provincial program requirements, and applicable practice guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First nation and clients

• Understanding of the impacts of colonization, residential schools, and intergenerational trauma on Indigenous Peoples.
• Knowledge of Westbank First Nation, Syilx culture, and community-based programs and services is considered an asset.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to maintain accurate electronic documentation.

This is a term position set to end March 31, 2027

The Median Salary for this position is $61,656.73
