Job summary

City of Mississauga is seeking a Ceramics Assistant Technician to support maintenance of city-wide ceramic programs at the Living Arts Centre. The role covers material preparation, studio cleanliness, safety protocols, and adherence to firing schedules within a community studio setting.

Ideal candidates will have a ceramics diploma, hands-on studio experience, and strong customer service skills. Flexible hours include evenings and weekends as needed to maintain firing operations.

Qualifications

• The candidate holds a post-secondary diploma or degree in Ceramics.
• Knowledge of a ceramics studio including equipment and health/safety practices.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with ceramics equipment (wheels, kilns, pug mill).

Responsibilities

• Prepare glazes, slips and materials for ceramics programs, with hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing and finishing.
• Load kilns and fire works per program timelines and requirements.
• Maintain studio cleanliness and safety, and comply with PPE and policies.
• Monitor materials, order supplies, and communicate repair needs as required.
• Support participants and assist with project workflows during firing schedules.
