Job Summary

As a Catering Operations Manager at MIT (77 Massachusetts Ave), you'll manage the successful day-to-day coordination of conference and catering services. This position is 80% administrative duties, and outstanding hospitality is a must-have. You'll work directly with clients planning on-premise events. Work schedule varies based on planned events, typically 5 days per week with hours between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm. The role requires excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to multitask across projects, ensuring accurate dissemination of information internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Consult clients on scope, expectations, setting, menu, entertainment to ensure successful events within budget
  • Plan menus in collaboration with clients and chefs
  • Delegate and ensure Event Manager executes events within established parameters
  • Recruit, interview, select, and train staff
  • Organize, lead, and motivate the catering team
  • Plan staff and event schedules
  • Maintain accurate financial and administrative records
  • Coordinate between Sales Catering Managers, Chefs, Staff, Vendors, and Clients
  • Assess contract requirements and ensure service satisfaction
  • Review and assess catering events for quality standards
  • Resolve customer concerns and ensure timely payments
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Leadership experience managing people, events, and guest experiences in the hospitality industry
  • Strong organizational, time management, and team motivation skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Adaptability to changing demands
  • Credibility with senior culinary professionals
  • 3-5 years of hospitality experience
