Job summary

Edmonton Catholic Schools is seeking Casual Therapeutic Assistants - Behavioural Therapy to provide behavioural support services to students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 within an inclusive education environment. You will work in classroom settings alongside a multidisciplinary team and under supervision of the Principal and Behavioural Therapy Manager.

The role requires diploma in disability studies and pediatric experience, with knowledge in autism, behaviour supports, and inclusion

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Disability Studies plus three years directly related pediatric experience.
  • Coursework in delays/disorders such as autism and mental health is an asset.
  • Knowledge of applied human behaviour, positive approaches to learning, inclusion and advocacy principles, and assessment concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement programs/strategies with specific children or groups within the classroom environment as outlined by the specialist and classroom team.
  • Plan and implement small and large group strategies/activities to support development of identified children.
  • Develop materials related to varied programs/strategies.
  • Maintain records of planned programs and child progress.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of programs/strategies designed to meet objectives.
  • Share information with the classroom team and coordinate with the specialist for appropriate programming and follow-up.
  • Model and discuss strategies with the classroom team; work collaboratively with members to implement strategies.
  • Assist in delivering workshops/seminars; conduct screenings and assist in administering screening tools.

The department of Behavioural Therapy is seeking Casual Therapeutic Assistants - Behavioural Therapy to provide a range of behavioural support services, to students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 within an inclusive education environment. This job involves working within the classroom environment together with a classroom team led by a teacher, which may include Behavioural Specialists, Educational Assistants, Early Childhood Educators, Learning Coaches, other Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) members, administrators, parents/guardians, and school staff.

This job is managed by Manager, Behavioural Therapy and functionally supervised by the Principal at a school.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement programs/strategies with specific children and or groups of children within the classroom environment as outlined by the specialist and classroom team;
  • Plan and implement small and large group strategies/activities within the classroom environment that support the development skills of skills of identified children;
  • Develop materials related to varied programs/strategies as determined by the specialist;
  • Maintain appropriate records of planned programs and child progress;
  • Monitor the effectiveness of programs/strategies designed to meet specific objectives;
  • Develop and maintain specific notes for the specialist and classroom team regarding child progress and response to current program/strategies follow up through contact notes, progress notes, anecdotal observations, and/or conversation;
  • Share information with the classroom teaching team regarding planned strategies/programs and communicate with the specialist to determine the appropriate level for programming and additional follow-up required;
  • Model/discuss strategies and supports as appropriate with the classroom team;
  • Work collaboratively with members to implement strategies;
  • Assist in the delivery of workshops/seminars;
  • Conduct screenings to facilitate interpretation of results;
  • Assist in administering informal/formal screening tools to gather information;
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Disability Studies, or related area from a recognized institution, plus three years directly related pediatric experience;
  • Coursework in specific delays/disorders such as autism and mental health is an asset;
  • Knowledge of applied human behaviour, positive approaches to learning, positive behaviour supports; inclusion and advocacy principles, formal and informal assessment principles, learning through play principles and interpersonal relationships and communication principles;
  • General knowledge of crisis Intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques, CPR/First Aid, psychological diagnoses, and the impact that delays/disorders have on behaviours in children;
  • General knowledge of educational inclusion principles and practices, and 21st Century educational skills;
  • Knowledge of multi-media technology and equipment, Microsoft and Apple iPads;
  • Knowledge of program planning and project management techniques;
  • Understanding of applied behavioural analysis;
  • Advanced verbal and written skills- in English including digital literacies;
  • Good communication, strong interpersonal skills, friendly/positive attitude are essential;
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of clients and needs;
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Flexible with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Good self-reflection skills and ability to quickly adjust to feedback;
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and work within tight timelines;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to influence decisions;
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Ability to travel to various sites within the City of Edmonton;
