Job summary

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant to support students with diverse needs in our classrooms. You will collaborate with the teacher, planning team, and district leads to implement programs and materials, and provide feedback on student progress.

You will assist with large and small group activities, and be comfortable supporting students with feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene as needed. A recent Police Check is required.

Qualifications

• Ability to establish rapport with students who have physical, emotional and learning disabilities from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
• Knowledge of behavior management and positive reinforcement and the ability to apply techniques as per guidelines.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with staff, students and families.

Job description

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools covers a geographical area that includes the regional communities of Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Spirit River. We are a team of 600 staff who provide quality teaching and learning experiences for approximately 5400 students.

Position Overview

• Assist students and meet with the school planning team in following programs, strategies and materials identified/developed and introduced by the teacher, specialized teams and District leads
• Provide feedback to the supervisory Teacher on his/her observations of students
• Assist with large group activities and work with small groups or individual students

Ideal Candidate Qualities

• Able to establish rapport with students who present with physical, emotional and learning disabilities who come from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds
• Knowledge of behavior management and positive reinforcement and the ability to utilize behavior management techniques according to established guidelines
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Desired Qualifications

• Educational Assistant certificate or diploma preferred
• Must be willing to assist students with feeding, toileting and personal hygiene
• Experience working with children with special needs in an organized setting is preferred
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform the position may be considered

Starting compensation will be as per the collective agreement is $22.26/hr with a generous benefit package included.

A recent Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check will be required if you are the successful applicant.
