Job summary

Extendicare Ottawa is seeking a Casual Resident Program Aide to support New Orchard Lodge in Ottawa, Ontario. You will plan, implement, and evaluate activation programs for residents, transport participants, and coordinate with nursing staff to ensure safety and engagement.

Requirements include a Recreation and Leisure Services or Gerontology diploma/degree and strong communication and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation and Leisure Services /Gerontology Diploma or Degree program required.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with excellent documentation.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-on-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for residents, including those with cognitive impairment.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Knowledge and/or experience working with the geriatric population, especially those with cognitive aspects.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to and from programs.
• Monitor residents during programs and report significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff.
• Participate in development and revision of programs under the Supervisor's guidance.
• Maintain program and resident records according to department policy and communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
