Job summary

The Salvation Army in Canada is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join the Interdisciplinary Care Team in Edmonton. You will provide Recreation Therapy services, support the Recreation Therapy Manager, and help implement programs for residents.

This casual role focuses on resident activities, health monitoring, and plan execution. Qualifications include post-secondary recreation therapy education or relevant experience, CPR/First Aid, Safe Food handling, and a clear vulnerable-sector check.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Recreation Therapy or experience in Recreation Therapy with seniors.
• CPR and Standard First Aid certification are required.
• SafeCheck Food Safe certificate and a clear vulnerable sector check are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Recreation Therapy Manager to develop, implement and execute approved group and individual programs.
• Assist with compilation and completion of monthly statistics and calendars.
• Implement and monitor therapeutic recreation techniques for residents; act on the care plan.
• Provide input to develop changes to the resident therapeutic recreation care plan.
• Complete requisitions for supplies and maintain therapy areas and equipment.
• Record daily attendance and forward information to the Recreation Therapy Manager.
• Assist in transporting residents using Program Vehicle where applicable.
• Support orientation and supervision of new staff, practicum students, and volunteers.
