Job summary

Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is seeking a Casual Library Technician to manage the Learning Commons across multiple schools, promoting literacy and technology while coordinating volunteers and events.

The role supports staff and students, applies library systems, and participates in ongoing learning of new technologies such as 3D printing and robotics.

Qualifications

• Degree/diploma in relevant field (i.e. Library Technician, Information Science, etc)
• 2 years of related experience
• Expertise with Insignia (or similar library software systems), Google Suite, Computer hardware and software, mobile technology, various AV equipment
• Comfortable learning and promoting new technologies (3D printing, robotics, coding, Cricut, etc.)
• Positive team player and ability to work independently
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Principal, the Library Technician:

• Operates the school Learning Commons and provides services in an automated/digital environment to meet the needs of staff and students;
• Promotes authors, books, literacy, technology and holds special events;
• Performs administrative functions associated with the Learning Commons and/or school;
• Coordinates volunteers’ activities;

• Performs other duties, as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

• Degree/diploma in relevant field (i.e. Library Technician, Information Science, etc);
• 2 years of related experience;
• Expertise with Insignia (or similar library software systems), Google Suite, Computer hardware and software, mobile technology, various AV equipment;
• Comfortable learning and promoting new technologies (3D printing, robotics, coding, Cricut, etc.);
• Positive team player and ability to work independently;
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
• Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered;
• The use of a personal vehicle may be required.

Status: Casual Library Technicians must be available to work on call during regular school hours.

Annual (or Hourly) Salary: Hourly wage of $32.64 plus 4% in lieu of vacation.
