Job summary

The Town of Stony Plain is seeking casual firefighters to join the Community & Protective Services team at Fire Hall. You will respond to fires, rescues, medical calls, and other emergencies, serving the community with professionalism.

Applicants must be 18+, hold a High School diploma, Class 5 Non-GDL with ≤6 demerits, and a clean CRC incl. Vulnerable Sector. Residency in town limits is required, with training hours and NFPA pathways offered.

Responsibilities

  • Attend training sessions during weeknights and some weekends.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Class 5 Non-GDL License with no more than 6 demerit points is required.
  • A Clean Criminal Record Check, including the Vulnerable Sector, is required.
  • Applicants must reside within town limits.

Assets:

  • Post-secondary fire services and/or medical education.
  • Previous Firefighting and/or emergency services experience.
  • Class 3 License with air brake endorsement.
  • Standard First Aid certification.
Additional Information

Applicants must reside within the Town of Stony Plain limits. Residency ensures the SPFD can respond to emergencies as promptly as possible. Applicants will also be required to undergo a complete physical examination and receive clearance by a physician to perform all the physical requirements of the position, as well as complete the SPFD’s physical fitness evaluation.

Successful candidates will be required to complete approximately 280 hours of training through an accredited program recognized through the Alberta Office of the Fire Commissioner and will be required to respond to emergency and non-emergency situations based on availability and scheduling. Alternatively, applicants who have obtained a minimum NFPA 1001 Level I may be eligible to qualify for the SPFD Accelerated Program. Regular training attendance is required during weeknights and some weekends throughout the year.

The Town provides competitive hourly wage based on training and experience, as well as VFIS 24-hour insurance coverage. The Town of Stony Plain offers excellent incentives including access to out Employee Assistance Program and Annual Wellness Allowance.
