Job summary

Edmonton Catholic Schools is accepting applications for casual Educational Assistant positions for day-to-day assignments in various schools/sites throughout the Division. This casual position has no guaranteed hours, but hires may apply to internal temporary or permanent positions.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist students in learning and developing skills in socialization, communication, and behavior, with general classroom support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus certificate/diploma in related area and one year related experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Knowledge of intervention techniques, first aid, CPR, and administering medication.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook and internet.
• Ability to communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy and tact; English proficiency both oral and written.

This is a casual position, with no guarantee of hours to be worked. However, all casual hires are eligible to apply to internal temporary or permanent positions. The job works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist students in learning and developing skills in the areas of socialization, communication, and behavior. The job also provides general support in the classroom.

Job Responsibilities

Qualifications

• High School diploma plus certificate/diploma in an area related to early childhood education or special needs education, plus one year directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications
• Knowledge of intervention techniques and strategies, first aid, CPR, and administering medication
• Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Outlook, and the internet
• Ability to communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact is essential
• Ability to effectively communicate in the English language both oral and written with the ability to develop and maintain communication with students, teachers, and specialists
• Ability to travel to sites within Edmonton
• Fluency in French, Spanish, Ukrainian, or knowledge and understanding of the Cree language and culture, is an asset.

Individuals fluent in French, Spanish, Ukrainian, or who demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the Cree language and culture are encouraged to apply. Language programming within the Division include:

• French Immersion programming at twelve (12) sites,
• Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin Cree Language and Culture programming at six (6) sites,
• Ukrainian Bilingual programming at four (4) sites,
• Spanish Bilingual programming at seven (7) sites.
