Job summary

Pembina Trails School Division is seeking a Casual Educational Assistant (EA1) on an on-call basis to support inclusive learning across all locations. Start date is as soon as possible.

Casual employees are not guaranteed hours and will often work irregular hours. Educational Assistants work under school administrators to assist students with diverse needs, provide academic assistance in classroom, small group, and individual settings, and support students’ emotional and physical needs.

Responsibilities

• Working within established school structures and classroom management expectations.
• Providing academic assistance to students in classroom, small group and individual settings.
• Delivering specialized or adapted programming under the direction of the classroom and resource teachers.
• Providing documentation of student-specific program performance.
• Supporting students with challenging educational needs and supervising lunch, recess, and swim programs.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT 1 (EA1)

Position Description

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of school administrators and with the input of other professionals, Educational Assistants promote and support inclusive practices within Pembina Trails School Division. Educational Assistants work collaboratively in assisting students with diverse needs and abilities, fostering engagement in the learning environment.

Specific Duties

• Working within established school structures, including classroom management structures, behavioural rules and student expectations
• Working with students with behavioural and learning challenges
• Providing academic assistance to students in classroom, small group and individual settings
• Delivering specialized or adapted programming to students under the direction of the classroom teacher and resource teacher
• Providing documentation of student-specific program performance
• Providing supports for students with challenging educational needs
• Supervising recess and lunch duty
• Supervising and assisting with the swim program
• Administering student medication as determined by the student’s U.R.I.S. plan
• Supporting students in community based programs
• Supporting students’ emotional, behavioural and physical needs
• Being flexible in terms of adapting to students’ educational programming
• Using augmentative and alternative communication
• Facilitating the transport of students between education sites
• Assisting students with their eating, which may include but is not limited to:
• supervision of students during lunch
• oral feeding, including general assistance with oral motor safety plans
