Job summary

Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) is seeking a Casual Educational Assistant to join the EA Supply List. This role provides temporary coverage across elementary and secondary programs in English and French Immersion.

The position is 10 months, casual, with potential to apply for permanent or temporary vacancies. Pay is CAD 30.92 per hour, with vacation pay per ESA rules, starting as soon as possible.

Qualifications

  • Educational Assistant Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Post-Secondary degree in a related field is required or strongly preferred.
  • BMS certification or training provided if not held.
  • Experience with students with special needs and behavioral disabilities is preferred.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training is desirable.
  • Lifting/positioning training is required or asset.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  • Must be physically capable of duties including lifting and transferring.
  • Must have transportation access to attend specific schools.

Responsibilities

  • Work with students with diverse needs, supporting behavior, safety, medical and physical needs.
  • Assist with lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring students/equipment as required.
  • Work with students individually or in groups.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, parents and administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Casual Educational Assistant (EA) . This opening is for a position on our EA Supply List . In this role, you will be responsible for providing temporary and/or short-term coverage for EA employee absences on an as-needed basis in both elementary and secondary English and French Immersion Programs.

Location:

All geographical areas of the Board, including North Wellington, Centre Wellington, East Wellington, Guelph, Orangeville, Dufferin County, and Shelburne.

Note: As a Casual Educational Assistant, you may select your preferred work locations within these regions.

FTE and Hours:

While there is no guarantee of hours per week as this is a casual position, a casual employee with full availability could work full-time hours up to 32.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) depending on the Board's needs.

Note: As a member of the EA Supply List, you will have the opportunity to apply for vacant permanent or temporary positions as they become available, with possible consideration over external applicants.

Hourly Pay Rate: $30.92 per hour, plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the ESA; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Start Date: As soon as possible
Board Information: 10-month position (yearly from September – June following the school year calendar); Casual; Educational Student Support Personnel (ESSP) & Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECE) Union

Reporting to the school Principal, the Educational Assistant must possess willingness, along with the physical ability to work with all our students who have diverse needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with students with diverse needs, providing support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student.
  • Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment, as well as application of BMS techniques.
  • Work with students both individually and/or in a group setting.
  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration.
  • Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Educational Assistant Diploma, and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board.
  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field of study.
  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification will be required for this position. Training to be provided if candidate does not have current BMS certificate.
  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience is a definite asset.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training.
  • Lifting/Positioning Training.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  • Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position, such as lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing BMS techniques where required.
  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools.
