Taylor View Towers in Red Deer, Alberta, is seeking a Cook to support our food services team and engage residents through meaningful meals and connections. The role involves food preparation, service, and collaboration with a dedicated care team to deliver a quality dining experience.

Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will help supervise kitchen activities, plan menus, and ensure safety and sanitation standards are met while accommodating modified diets and resident preferences.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Formal Food Service training preferred (Red Seal or equivalent) or 3–5 years of large-scale cooking experience.
  • Experience leading others in a food service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Food Services Supervisor in supervising the food services team.
  • Coordinate and oversee care partner planning and service time scheduling.
  • Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, retention, promotion, orientation, and training support.
  • Order, receive, and manage inventory for the operation of the food services area.
  • Prepare high-quality meals and accommodate modified diets as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and compliance with standards and checklists.

Summary Statement:

The Cook supports the food services team. The cook assists in food preparationand planning, food service, and resident engagement to provide a meaningfulexperience to residents and Employee Care Partners.

Key Responsibility Areas :
Leadership:
  • Assists the Food Services Supervisor in supervising and managingthe activities of the food services team.
  • Supports the Food Services Supervisor in coordinating andoverseeing care partner planning and service time scheduling, including overtime and time off requests
  • Supports the Food Services Supervisor in the following processes:recruitment, interviewing, hiring, retention, promotion, orientation, and training.
FoodPreparation & Planning:
  • Orders, receives, and coordinates inventory management for theoperation of the food services area
  • Prepares and organizes all high-quality meals following the menu cycleand prepares off-menu items to accommodate modified diets
  • Complies with Service Area Checklists and verifies sign-off
Food Service:
  • Provides services in accordance with best practices, ourWell-Being Strategies, quality improvement guidelines, andregulations/standards
  • Verifies all Food Service (indoor/outdoor) areas for cleanlinessaccording to required standards and checklists
  • Audits and collects ongoing resident/family feedback from the ResidentFood Services Committee
Training andAdministration:
  • Provides orientation and development to care partners
  • Attends educational workshops to inform the team on trends and advancementsin food preparation and nutrition
  • Participates in various committees and meetings providingadvice/input
  • Maintains records required by the Community, auditors, and fundersas required
Health &Safety:
  • Leads and completes responsibilities outlined in the EmergencyManagement Plan, Infection Control protocol, WHMIS, and Health & Safety Wellness Strategies
  • Attains and maintains ongoing compliance with appropriateregulatory standards
  • Conducts regular audits to ensure Taylor View Towers is preparedfor inspections
  • Reduces safety hazards, accidents, and injuries as well asinvestigates Care Partner incidents, and implements corrective action asrequired
Projects andAssignments:
  • Performs a variety of other projects and assignments as required.
Qualifications:
Education
  • Grade 12 Diploma or recognized equivalent is required.
  • Formal Food Service training preferred (Red Seal or equivalent certification from anapproved Food Service School)or 3-5 yrs large scale commercial cooking.
Experience
  • Experience leading others in a food service environment isrequired
  • Experience in the Food Service Industry as a Sous Chef
  • Experience training others is desired
  • Experience with Food Safety Practices and Safe Work Practices andProcedures
Certifications:
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • First Aid and CPR preferred
