Job summary

Aspira Valleylands Oshawa Retirement Living is seeking a skilled Cook to prepare nutritious, high-quality meals that respect residents' dietary needs and cultural preferences. You will help create enjoyable dining experiences that support health and well-being.

Join a fast-paced team focused on comfort, dignity, and respect in every resident interaction, while following recipes and safety standards to ensure consistent, delicious results.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality settings.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit.
  • Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Sienna Senior Living may utilize artificial Intelligence to screen or assess applicants for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals while considering residents' dietary needs and cultural preferences.
  • Contribute to creating enjoyable dining experiences that support residents' health and well-being.
  • Follow recipes, production sheets, and menu guidelines to ensure consistency and portion control.
  • Assist in department operations when needed, including menu changes and ordering supplies.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will be a welcomed team member, working in a fast-paced environment where you will make a meaningful difference in residents’ lives. As a Cook , you will prepare nutritious, high-quality meals while gaining an understanding of residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and cultural considerations. You will contribute to creating enjoyable dining experiences that support residents’ health and well-being. As an individual and part of a wider team, you will be a strong contributor to the culture of the home, where the focus is always on helping residents live fully, every day.

What makes you a great fit?
  • You have hands-on experience preparing meals and snacks in a fast-paced kitchen, following recipes, production sheets, and menu guidelines.
  • You understand the importance of meeting prescribed dietary requirements, proper food temperatures, and portion control while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
What You Need To Know
  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit
  • You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
