Job summary

Chinook School Division #211 is seeking Casual Bus Drivers to transport students safely across multiple locations in Saskatchewan. The role involves daily vehicle checks, route adherence, and clear communication with school staff.

Training and supportive teamwork are emphasized in a dynamic, on-call schedule. Successful candidates will hold a Class 5 license with S Endorsement or be willing to obtain it, maintain a clean driving abstract, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with students

Qualifications

  • Minimum Class 5 license with School Bus S Endorsement, or willingness to obtain.
  • Satisfactory driving record/abstract.
  • Experience working with children is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport students to and from school on assigned routes.
  • Regular bus cleaning and maintenance reporting.
  • Adhere to safe driving procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Communicate with school admin and transportation personnel about student conduct.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
  • Be flexible for on-call shifts and various routes.

  • Eastend (Non-Union) – 2 position
  • Frontier (Non-Union) – 3 positions
  • Wymark (Non-Union) - 1 position
  • Waldeck (Non-Union) - 1 position
  • Success (Non-Union) - 2 positions
  • Cabri (Non-Union) - 3 positions

Responsibilities
  • Safely transport students to and from school as assigned;
  • Regular cleaning of the bus;
  • Adherence to safe bus driving procedures;
  • Compliance with all personal protective equipment procedures;
  • Regularly communicating with school Administration and Transportation Department personnel regarding student conduct;
  • Conducting daily vehicle inspections as required by The Traffic Safety Act;
  • Ensuring bus maintenance standards are being maintained and mechanical deficiencies are reported to the bus garage in a timely manner;
  • Ability to work on an on-call basis and adapt to various routes, schedules, and student populations;
  • Promoting the vision, mission, values and goals of Chinook School Division;
Desired Qualifications And Skills
  • Minimum Class 5 license with School Bus “S” Endorsement or willingness to obtain;
  • Possess and maintain a satisfactory driver’s abstract;
  • Previous experience working with children;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Strong cognitive ability to make sound decisions;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to deal with a broad range of students, staff and members of the general public;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Good physical condition
    • Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally
    • Ability to exert up to 20 lbs of force frequently
    • Ability to exert up to 10 lbs of force constantly

  • Pay range: $20.90 per hour base wage and bus expense allowances. If a route is over 80 KM's there is a per-kilometre adjustment of $0.2770 per kilometre.

Casual employees are contacted to work on an “as-needed” basis. Working casually allows you the flexibility of selecting which locations you work in, and which shifts you choose to accept. Casual employees are important members of our Chinook team and receive competitive wages as well as pension benefits. Some training opportunities may be available in order ensure our casual employees are equipped with the skills they will need to work in various roles throughout the division.
