Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is seeking a part-time Cashier to support the cafeteria operations in the Retail Food Services department. The role focuses on delivering courteous customer service while handling cash transactions and serving meals to staff and visitors.

Under the direction of the Cafeteria Supervisor, you will operate the cash register, manage cash receipts, and assist with light food preparation and cleaning duties.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Proven customer service experience required.
• Proven experience working a cash register and handling cash required.
• Previous experience in a hospital or commercial food service preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with others as a member of a team required.
• Demonstrated ability to attend and complete scheduled shifts on a regular and timely basis required.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, required.
• Competencies in other languages are an asset.

The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Cafeteria Supervisor, the Cashier provides customer service in a courteous and timely manner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: customer service, operating the cash register and handling cash receipts, serving meals to staff and visitors, distributing food and dishes to service areas, assisting in the simple preparation and portioning of food as per duty lists, and assisting in light cleaning throughout the Department. The Cashier will work as part of a team to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of the service.

Hours of Work

Variable shifts,Monday-Friday,Weekends, Holidays;24 hour operation. Backshifts and flexible hours required.
