Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax is seeking a General Worker for the Patient Food Service team. The role involves distributing par-stock items, assisting in simple food preparation and portioning, replenishing stock, and delivering meals to patients as part of a cohesive team.

Hours vary with 3.0–11.25 hour shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays; 70% FTE in a permanent hourly position. Preference is given to unionized staff within the bargaining unit.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Recent experience/training in a food service setting is preferred.
• Food Handlers Course required (or willingness to maintain it within one year of hire).
• WHMIS required (or willingness to maintain within six months of hire).
• Must have demonstrated teamwork, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal & written) skills.
• Must have strong customer service skills.
• Competencies in other languages an asset.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Food Services and under the direct supervision of the Food Services Supervisor, the General Worker distributes par-stock items to units; assists in the simple preparation and portioning of food as per duty lists; replenishes stock; assists in cleaning throughout the department; serves, takes orders, and distributes meals to patients; and works as part of a team in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of the service.

Hours of Work

Shifts range from 3.0 to 11.25 hours. Monday- Sunday: days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. 24-hour operation. Flexible hours and back shifts are required.

Your Qualifications
