Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax is seeking a General Worker for the Patient Food Service. You will distribute par-stock items, assist in simple food preparation, replenish stock and help keep the department clean while serving meals to patients as part of a team.

Hours range from 3.0 to 11.25 per shift, with days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, Food Handlers Course, WHMIS, and strong teamwork and customer service skills; multilingual ability

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Recent experience or training in a food service setting preferred.
• Food Handlers Course required (or willingness to obtain within one year).
• WHMIS required (or willingness to obtain within six months).
• Demonstrated teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written).
• Strong customer service skills. Languages other than English are an asset.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Food Services and under the direct supervision of the Food Services Supervisor, the General Worker distributes par-stock items to units; assists in the simple preparation and portioning of food as per duty lists; replenishes stock; assists in cleaning throughout the department; serves, takes orders, and distributes meals to patients; and works as part of a team in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of the service.

Hours of Work

Shifts range from 3.0 to 11.25 hours. Monday- Sunday: days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. 24-hour operation. Flexible hours and back shifts are required.

Your Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Recent experience/training in a food service setting is preferred.
• Food Handlers Course required (or willingness to maintain it within one year of hire).
• WHMIS required (or willingness to maintain within six months of hire).
• Must have demonstrated teamwork, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal & written) skills.
• Must have strong customer service skills.
• Competencies in other languages an asset.
