Job description

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's negotiating partners in Confederation, as well as the founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Case Worker position within our Housing Department located at 670 Main St in Winnipeg, MB. This position is based at our Fre Maachi transitional housing centre, which operates 24/7; therefore, the incumbent will be scheduled to work various shifts. Working under the direction of the Program Manager and Case Manager, the Case Worker is responsible for providing a broad spectrum of effective and culturally appropriate rapid services.

  1. Collaborate with participants in formulating detailed goal plans that are reviewed and modified regularly, based on Housing First principles;
  2. Develop and deliver support tailored to the individual beliefs and desires of participants, utilizing a combination of traditional Red River Métis teachings and values, alongside access to contemporary physical, emotional, and psychological services;
  3. Provide individualized services or case plans across various housing-related areas;
  4. Facilitate individual and group activities such as personal counseling sessions and Sharing Circles;
  5. Organize and participate in community social activities with participants;
  6. Maintain thorough and accurate records of all participant contacts, personal/home visits, appointments, agency referrals, and document progress toward goals and objectives.

Skills and Qualifications :

  1. Bachelor of Social Work or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  2. A minimum of two years of front-line Case Management experience;
  3. Knowledge of community-based resources and access methods;
  4. Knowledge of addictions, attachment, mental health, trauma, and their impacts on families;
  5. Familiarity with Child and Family Services (CFS), Employment & Income Assistance (EIA), and related systems;
  6. Strong assessment skills and experience conducting investigations, including gathering and analyzing information for appropriate action;
  7. Experience fostering a respectful, team-based approach to service delivery;
  8. Experience working for a non-profit organization and within Indigenous communities is an asset;
  9. Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs, and services is an asset;
  10. Valid Manitoba driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle and ability to travel.
