CMHA Kelowna & District is hiring a full-time Case Manager for the RentBank program in the Central Okanagan. The role involves processing referrals, intake forms, and coordinating services to assist unhoused individuals or those at risk of housing loss.

You will provide case management, advocacy and information access while ensuring timely loan repayment and program reporting. The position requires a Diploma in Social Services or related field, 1-2 years of experience, and a Vulnerable Sector

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Social Services or related field is required.
  • Criminal Record Check clearance in the Vulnerable Sector is required.
  • Certificates in First Aid, CPR and Naloxone are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for referrals and submissions.
  • Receive referrals, process intake and loan/lease documents.
  • Connect clients to housing services and social supports.
  • Provide case management, advocacy and information access.
  • Explain loan terms and manage loan agreements with clients.
  • Maintain program statistics and reports with the team.
  • Attend weekly case reviews and team meetings.

Job description

CMHAKelowna is hiring a full-time Case Manager. This position offers 37.5 hours aweek with a typical work week of Monday -Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm.

WHO IS A CASE MANAGER?

The Case Manager (CM) in the RentBank program assists citizens of the Central Okanagan who are unhoused, or atsignificant risk of losing their housing, by processing client referrals andintakes. The CM provides clients with advice and supplementary supports gearedtowards helping individuals stay in their current housing or obtaining newhousing.

WHATDOES A CASE MANAGER DO?
  • Act as the main point of contact for referralenquiries and submissions
  • Receive referrals, processing intake andapplication forms such as bank statements and leases
  • Connect clients experiencing, or at significantrisk of, being unhoused to services and community resources including socialassistance, budgeting, and food security programs
  • Provides case management,advocacy and access to information and other services
  • Conducts assessments with clients to determinethe appropriate service and whether they are eligible for a loan or rentsupplement
  • Considers other supports or services that maybenefit a client in addition to, or in lieu of financial assistance, and refersclients to those services
  • Explains loan terms and conditions to clientsand manages loan agreement signing with clients
  • Prepares recommendations to the Manager in caseswhere the client meets the criteria for a loan
  • Assists with applications and reviews loanapplications, verifies information submitted including supporting documentation
  • Liaises with appropriate Finance team members toset up loan repayments
  • Maintains contact with clients over the periodof loan repayments to manage issues arising during loan repayment and to ensuresuccessful repayment of the loan in full
  • Attends weekly case review and team meetingswith the Community Roots team and Manager
  • Actively participates, as the representative ofthe Central Okanagan Rent Bank, in the network of BC rent banks as facilitatedby BC Rent Bank
  • Attends relevant meetings and conferences with adirect focus on housing issues
  • Provides an ethical, efficient and therapeuticapproach to dealing with crisis intervention in a timely manner
  • Navigates conversation around self-harm applyingan Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) lens
  • Maintains program financial and repaymenttracking through Case Management System (CMS) and internal spreadsheets
  • Maintains program statistics and reports, workingcollaboratively with other team members to ensure the success of the program
  • Provides regular updates to CMHA Kelownamanagement of program statistics and key learnings
  • Provides information for reporting to theManager as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma in Social Services or related field
  • 1-2 years relevant experience
  • Criminal Record Check clearance in theVulnerable Sector
  • Certificates in First Aid, CPR and Naloxoneconsidered an asset
  • Ability to engage respectfully with individuals withmultiple barriers
  • Communication and customer service skills toeffectively support clients
  • Ability to work in cooperation with team membersand independently
  • Understanding of and commitment to working withpeople experiencing or being at risk of being unhoused
  • Knowledge of social servicesystems and local resources related tohousing, social and financial services is an asset
  • Ability to maintain consistent professionalboundaries, exercising mature judgment and understanding of safety concerns
  • Understanding of basic financial concepts andtools such as household budgets, comparing income vs expenses, credit, debt,interest and loans
  • Familiarity with willingness to learn andunderstand basic loan contract terms and conditions
  • Ability to explain the rent bank loan and loanagreements in simple, easy-to-understand terms to clients
  • Understanding of Harm Reduction theory anddemonstrated ability to implement harm reduction strategies
  • Understanding of Intentional Outreach, HousingFirst, Rapid Re-Housing, and Shelter Diversion principles
  • Understanding of working with a Trauma Informedlens
  • Familiar with or ability to learn HousingConnections
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, anddecision-making skills
  • Conflict resolution and crisis interventionskills
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely andefficient manner, utilizing good organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently andeffectively
  • Ability to be regularly exposed to individualswho are struggling with and/or recovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use,homelessness, mental health challenges and/or mental illness
