Job summary

The Ontario Public Service is seeking a Drafter 3 to support the Geoservices Section of the Ontario Geological Survey, Mines Ministry. You will publish geoscience information for the mining industry and client groups, creating maps and graphics using GIS and drafting tools.

You will work on design teams, maintain cartographic standards, and contribute to publication processes while developing GIS-based geological products and visuals.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of drafting, graphics design, esthetic and artistic layout principles.
• Knowledge of cartographic and map construction techniques, principles and practices.
• Working knowledge of graphics, publishing and presentation software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, PowerPoint).
• Thorough knowledge of GIS software to construct digital geological maps and related products.
• Knowledge of printing industry standards and supplies for quality map production.

Responsibilities

• Generate, maintain and administer digital and hard copy geological maps within a GIS.
• Complete all illustrative material required for geological reports, maps and data sets using graphic and drafting software.
• Provide advice on technical aspects of graphics, drafting, map production and assess new software/hardware.
• Participate on design teams and contribute to internal cartographic standards and publication processes.
