Job summary

Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia is seeking a journeyman carpenter to perform skilled carpentry work at the journeyman level, installing, maintaining, and repairing structural elements, fittings and furniture in accordance with Building Codes.

You will review requests, interpret drawings, supervise tasks, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance on projects across facilities in Metro Vancouver.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Apprenticeship or Journeyman Carpenter certificate recognized by BC.
  • Two years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review work requests, consult users, interpret blueprints to determine materials and labour costs.
  • Prepare for projects by performing risk assessments and coordinating with user departments.
  • Design, construct, and maintain woodwork and furniture per Building Codes.
  • Assign tasks to staff and provide training and orientation.
  • Maintain storage and inventory; complete reports and records.
  • Perform general maintenance on building, grounds and equipment.
  • Adhere to codes, regulations, and safety requirements including WCB.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $40.64 - $40.64 / hour

Detailed Overview

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, this position performs skilled carpentry work at the journeyman level in the installation, construction, alteration, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and/or service of structural elements, fittings and furniture in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Responsibilities
  1. Reviews work requests and consults with user departments regarding specifications and other project requirements; interprets blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the required materials and equipment; calculates materials and labour in estimating cost of projects and makes recommendations as required.
  2. Prepares for work projects by performing operational and safety risk assessments, arranging work schedules with user departments and assembling supplies, tools and equipment.
  3. Designs, constructs, and maintains woodwork, furniture, fittings and hardware by selecting, laying out, joining, assembling, erecting and/or dismantling materials; constructs, erects, installs and repairs structural elements in conformance with applicable Building Codes and By-Laws
  4. Assigns work tasks to designated staff and provides related training and orientation; checks work performed to ensure that the work was done properly.
  5. Maintains storage and work areas in clean, tidy and safe condition and maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment and tools; completes related reports and records including daily work summary sheets; recommends purchase of related supplies and equipment. Evaluates equipment/supplies for technical acceptance and safety prior to selection as required.
  6. Performs other general maintenance and repair duties related to building, grounds and equipment in a variety of areas as required/assigned.
  7. Performs all work in adherence to all applicable codes, regulations, and safety requirements, including regulations of the WCB.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience

Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyman Carpenter recognized by the Province of British Columbia. Two (2) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
