Job summary

School District 5 Southeast Kootenay in Cranbrook is seeking a skilled carpenter to perform maintenance and cross-trade tasks. The role is temporary, 40 hours per week, with pay of $35.01 per hour under CUPE 4165.

The successful candidate will inspect, repair, and maintain district facilities, liaise with staff and contractors, and work under the Director of Operations or designate. A Red Seal carpentry certification and four years' experience are required.

Qualifications

  • BC Journeyperson Carpentry certification (Red Seal)
  • Driver’s license
  • Minimum four years of experience in the carpentry trade
  • Computer skills would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain district facilities.
  • Purchase supplies, parts, and equipment.
  • Prepare budgets and inventory management.
  • Estimate and bill costs.
  • Supervise staff to assist with assigned tasks.
  • Be available on call when required.
  • Provide information to the Director of Operations or designate of potentially serious and/or dangerous situations.
  • Liaise with school district personnel, various Ministries, enforcing agencies, inspectors, and general contractors.
  • Maintain, clean, service, adjust or repair tools and equipment related to the position.
  • Assist with the technical design of new buildings and renovations.
  • Perform other job-related duties.

JOB SUMMARY: An employee hired to perform skilled carpentry and maintenance work. Cross-trade cooperation will be expected. The employee is responsible to the Director of Operations or designation.

Temporary until the incumbent's return or December 22, 2027.

HOURS OF WORK

WAGE RATE

$35.01 as per CUPE 4165 Collective Agreement

Qualifications Required
  • British Columbia Journeyperson Carpentry certification (Red Seal)
  • Driver’s license
  • Minimum four years of experience in the carpentry trade
  • Computer skills would be an asset

  • Work under pressure, multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Understand, keep current and apply guidelines, regulations, codes, and acts from various Ministries and/or enforcing agencies pertaining to the position.
  • Be self-directed and work independently and/or collegially in a team environment.
  • Work with disagreeable situations and adverse conditions from time to time.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair various specialized tools and equipment.
  • Solve problems related to the job.
  • Read and understand specialized and technical material related to the position.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop work methods in agreement with the Director of Operations or designate for assigned tasks.
  • Perform the physical requirements of the job.
