Job summary

Swissport International AG in Mississauga is seeking an experienced Cargo Operations Manager to plan and oversee all cargo service handling activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. You will lead unionized teams, manage workforce plans, and uphold ISO standards while driving continuous improvement.

The role requires a minimum of 5 years in the industry, strong English communication, and ability to work in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience within the cargo/airline operations industry.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Experience in a unionized environment and dealing with a union is preferred.
  • Strong customer focus with commitment to operational quality and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as required to support operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage all operational activities for cargo service handling in line with procedures, policies and brand values.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and reliable cargo operations while meeting customer expectations and collective agreements.
  • Lead, coach and support unionized teams to achieve SLAs, productivity targets and performance goals.
  • Manage daily workforce planning, staffing assignments and resource allocation in line with needs and agreements.
  • Maintain effective relationships with union representatives and employees, promoting open communication and good labour relations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and regulatory requirements for employees, equipment, facilities and aircraft operations.
  • Oversee health and safety programs, incident reporting, investigations, and return-to-work programs.
  • Monitor operation performance to improve profitability and productivity; review P&L variances and take corrective action.
  • Monitor quality standards and implement continuous improvements in workflows and services to stay competitive.
  • Ensure ISO 9001, 45001, and 14001 standards compliance and support audits and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate operational, training and compliance records.
  • Address customer concerns and operational challenges.
  • Foster accountability, safety, respect and leadership development across teams.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, airport authorities, union partners and business partners.

Job Summary

Job Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable cargo operations while meeting customer expectations, operational objectives, and collective agreement requirements.
  • Lead, coach, and support unionized teams to achieve Service Level Agreements (SLA), productivity targets, and operational performance goals while fostering a positive labour relations environment.
  • Manage daily workforce planning, staffing assignments, and resource allocation in accordance with operational needs and collective agreement provisions.
  • Maintain effective relationships with union representatives and employees by promoting open communication, trust, and constructive labour relations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, collective agreements, safety regulations, and regulatory requirements related to employees, equipment, facilities, and aircraft operations.
  • Oversee workplace health and safety programs, incident reporting, investigations, modified work/return-to-work programs, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee, monitor, and evaluate the operation's performance to ensure increased profitability and productivity.
  • Monitor and analyze the Profit and Loss (P&L) statements for any variances and take appropriate action
  • Monitor and track quality standards of the Cargo operation and ensure continuous improvements in workflows and services to maintain competitiveness.
  • Ensure operational processes comply with ISO 9001, 45001, and 14001 standards while supporting audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate operational, training, and compliance records.
  • Address customer concerns and operational challenges.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, respect, continuous improvement, and employee development through effective leadership and coaching.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, airport authorities, union partners, and business partners.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Minimum of 5 years experience within the industry
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment and dealing with a union.
  • Strong customer focus with a commitment to operational quality, continuous improvement
  • knowledge of general office operations, and business support functions.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, as required to support operational needs.
  • Highly reliable professional with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
