Responsibilities

  • Follow up on action plans and monitor progress toward outcomes.
  • Connect clients with community resources through referrals and partnerships.
  • Deliver one-on-one job search coaching and career planning support.
  • Promote programs through outreach, networking and engagement with employers.
  • Build relationships with employers and community organizations for opportunities.

The Career Development Specialist is responsible for engaging, supporting, guiding and following up with job seeking clients in the Career Centre. As a first and primary point of contact for job seekers, the Career Development Specialist will warmly welcome clients using a strengths-based approach to service, deliver appropriate and timely employment interventions and case manage the client through all service delivery aspects.

What You Will Do:
  • Pre-screen potential clients to assess suitability and eligibility for Employment Services programs.
  • Provide employment support and counselling to clients, identifying attitudes, challenges, and barriers that may impact employment success.
  • Work with clients to develop individualized Employment Action Plans that support their employment and career goals.
  • Advise clients on effective job search techniques and strategies, while providing ongoing coaching and support throughout their employment journey.
  • Follow up on client action plans, monitor progress, and make recommendations to help clients achieve successful outcomes.
  • Connect clients with appropriate community resources and services through referrals and partnerships.
  • Provide one-on-one job search coaching and career planning support to enhance clients' employability skills and workforce readiness.
  • Promote Employment Services programs through community outreach, networking, and engagement activities with employers and community partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers and community organizations to create opportunities and support positive client outcomes.
  • Plan and facilitate employment-related workshops, training sessions, and career development activities for clients.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of training programs, service delivery, and client resources.
  • Collaborate with team members to support client success, program enhancements, curriculum improvements, and team development.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive client records and case notes using computerized case management systems.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Sound knowledge of Employment counselling and job coaching techniques.
  • Strong facilitation skills, both in group setting and one-on-one.
  • Solid case noting skills with the ability to build rationale for decisions that support clients with goals.
  • Knowledge and/or experience developing and delivering training programs.
  • Knowledge and/or experience serving clients with employment barriers, including disability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet and exceed established job performance and/or program targets.
  • Valid Driver's license and full-time access to a vehicle.
  • Flexibility in work scheduling to be available to work days, with some evenings and weekends.
  • Sound working knowledge of various software including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
