Job description

VPI is a Service Provider for Employment Ontario, which is funded by the Ontario Government to support jobseekers and employers. VPI has been delivering employment programs for more than 30 years and is based in Mississauga, operating in multiple locations across Southern Ontario. Role Overview

The Career Development and Support Counsellor provides proactive post-employment support to help clients maintain employment, navigate workplace challenges, develop skills, and progress toward long-term career stability. The role includes regular client check-ins, career coaching, employment-risk intervention, re-employment assistance, financial support assessments, community referrals, and accurate case management. This position also applies labor market knowledge to guide clients, maintain strong service standards, and contribute to individual and team performance targets.

Key Job Functions
  • Provides proactive, ongoing retention and post-employment support during the client’s first year of employment through regular check-ins, real-time coaching, skill development, and career advancement guidance to promote confidence, stability, and long-term employment success.
  • Supports clients through job trials, workplace challenges, career transitions, and progression opportunities, providing timely intervention when employment is at risk and re-employment assistance following job loss.
  • Identify and facilitate access to community resources and other supports that strengthen job retention, career advancement, and overall client well-being.
  • Assess client eligibility for Job Seeker Financial Supports and ensure approved funds are used appropriately and effectively to support sustainable employment outcomes.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and up-to-date client records across CRM systems and internal portals, including case notes, action plan items, service activities, and calendar entries.
  • Remains informed of current and emerging local and regional Labour Market trends to provide relevant employment and career guidance.
  • Delivers services in a professional, welcoming, safe, and client-centered manner while maintaining confidentiality and respecting client privacy.
  • Achieving individual and team performance targets through effective task prioritization, time management, adaptability, and resilience in a dynamic environment.
  • Performs additional duties as required to support departmental objectives and client success.
